Twins Joaquin and Aitana de Jesus Ontiveros were both expected to be born January 27, 2018. However, their mother went into labor at 7PM on New Year's Eve and was rushed to California's Delano Regional Medical Center. Joaquin was born at 11:58 PM on December 31, 2017, while his twin sister Aitana arrived at 12:16 AM on January 1, 2018. Being born a different a different day, month and year means that Joaquin will now have endless bullying opportunities.
Luckily, he can't claim to be the firstborn, as Maria and her husband Joaquin, both farm laborers, have three other daughters together. The family is also taking home more than $3,000 worth of baby supplies that were donated to the hospital by local community groups. "It was definitely a surprise!
The whole family feels humbled and blessed and excited," a spokesperson told the press. "When they realized they were going to be in the hospital over New Year's Eve, the family planned to celebrate at midnight in the break room. But then it turned out Maria was in labor, which was a surprise."
